Texans Can recognizes May as Mental Health Awareness Month, highlighting the significance of prioritizing mental well-being for students. Texans Can Academies offers free TCHATT mental health counseling for all students. If you are interested in free counseling services, please contact your child's Student Advocate, Counselor, or Principal. Mental Health Month typically occurs in May each year, aiming to raise awareness about mental health issues, reduce stigma, and promote mental well-being. During Mental Health Month, organizations, communities, and individuals often participate in various activities such as educational events, workshops, fundraisers, and advocacy campaigns to support mental health awareness and advocacy efforts.
Here are five self-care activities students can engage in to nurture their mental health:
Practice mindfulness: Set aside a few minutes each day for mindfulness exercises like deep breathing, meditation, or guided relaxation to alleviate stress and enhance focus.
Pursue hobbies: Dedicate time to activities you enjoy, whether it's drawing, playing a musical instrument, writing, or engaging in sports, to unwind and foster creativity.
Maintain a sleep routine: Establish a consistent sleep schedule by going to bed and waking up at the same time each day to promote better sleep quality and overall well-being.
Cultivate social connections: Foster relationships with classmates, friends, and supportive adults through social activities, group study sessions, or virtual hangouts to feel connected and supported.
Set boundaries: Learn to prioritize your time and energy by setting boundaries around schoolwork, extracurricular activities, and screen time to prevent burnout and maintain balance.
By incorporating these self-care practices into their lives, students can build resilience, manage stress more effectively, and thrive academically and personally.
